Before applying to University I arranged several placements within dentistry to enable me to confirm my choice of career. During this period of time I was able to spend some time with Mr P J Leopard at North Staffordshire Hospital. Shadowing Mr Leopard enabled me to see a wider perspective of dentistry and also stimulated an interest in surgery. As a dental student, I have arranged several extra sessions within the Midlands at Maxillofacial Departments to gain further experience of oral and maxillofacial surgery. I recently completed my elective in omfs in Chicago under the guidance of Dr L Heffez and in Vancouver with Dr I Matthew.

My clinical interests are in the management of hospitalised patients, and also the management of traumatised patients with regard to the oral and maxillofacial region. Having spent time at different hospital centres within the Midlands I have been able to see a wide range of treatment and sub-specialities within maxillofacial surgery; and this has influenced me to pursue a career within omfs.
